This was the best thing I read this week. I never thought I could enjoy reading about bird watching so much. Such a fun piece, the Good Will Hunting reference was the cherry on top. I also feel a new appreciation for twitchers (am I getting that right?)
You made me spit out my coffee at twitchdown. This was maybe the most fun reading I've had in a while. Thank you for sharing this. I love the range of what you're writing lately.
Anything that makes you go out in nature, touch grass, slow down, and pay attention has got to have multiple benefits, on top of the direct enjoyment that you get from it. Gets my stamp of approval, even if it's not something I've ever really tried 👍
‘Ten layers of abstraction away from whatever I’m supposed to be looking at’ is the best description of a state I’m all too familiar with 😂 You are so funny! Love the playful voice and the colourful pictures.
Your essay brought back so many warm, childhood memories…I used to love watching birds as a kid, then stopped around age 11 when we moved to a city apartment with no backyard to play in. Maybe it’s the 11 year old me talking, but I believe that bird watching is about talking to birds and watching them do cool things - never about the naming. Have fun with your fumbling, clueless bird watching!
A very humorous piece that got me out of my mind too! I often try to identify the birds I hear in the Lake District, but fortunately don’t know or hike with anyone knowledgable enough to cause a Lake-Gate(?)

Thanks so much, Michelle, what a kind thing to say! I really appreciate it.
"It was never really about the birds at all." Love that! Really enjoyed your piece and self-exploration.
Thank you Kirsten!

Thanks man - really appreciate that!
Ahhh great piece Edward! Hilarious, and full of insights that I relate to as well.
Thank you Malavika!
