Murnau’s "Sunrise" (1927). It revealed something of the timelessness carried in us humans. It confirmed, to me, that the human in us is as it was then, in 1927. Life can be beautiful and dreadful and most of us are blind to the beauty and love that is closest to us.
Yes! I’ve recently been diving into watching silent films. After seeing Egger’s Nosferatu, I watched the 1922 film and loved it. Last night I watched The Cabinet of Dr Caligari and it’s so cool to see how influential it was on Tim Burton’s work.

What a great recommendation - thanks!
Pioneers of African American Cinema is an anthology of many silent and early talkies by Black directors. Definitely worth checking out!
Great recommendation - thank you!
Inspirace (1949) by Karel Zeman is a cute silent short with almost all glass blown art as well! It’s on the Criterion Collection. 🩰 ❄️
I invite anyone interested in watching, or learning more about, silent film to check out https://allthemovies.substack.com
